The Curse is Broken

“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us…”

Galatians 3:13 (NKJV)

Imagine this: Two people are arguing. One tells the other, “Your family is cursed!” Instead of recoiling or looking embarrassed, the other bursts into laughter and says, “The curse is broken!”

This seems to be a bit crazy, doesn’t it? Of course, it does, but do we know that those words should be our perfect and only response when the enemy tries to accuse and condemn us? We can shout those words with conviction because they are true and factual.

The Bible is filled with accounts of different people or objects being cursed. Some were cursed by God because of idolatry or disobedience, while others were cursed for various reasons, including disrespect, disappointment, or resentment.

A few better-known instances include: God cursed the serpent because it deceived Eve (Genesis 3:14). Achan coveted spoils that were dedicated to God. Those objects became cursed (Joshua 7:1). Shimei cursed King David out of a bitter heart because of his tribesman King Saul (2 Samuel 16:5-8). Elisha, the prophet, cursed his servant Gehazi with leprosy for his greed and lies (2 Kings 5:25-27). Jesus also cursed a fig tree in Matthew 21:19-20, and it died.

Others sometimes curse us because of bitterness, envy, hatred, or something we may have said or done. Some of those curses may even be generational and have caused others to die, but as mentioned earlier, we can confidently shout, “The curse is broken!”

This is only possible because of the New Covenant of Life secured for us through the Atoning Blood of Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary! When Jesus took our sins upon Himself and died in our place, that act paid the price for our freedom from every curse, regardless of the reason. His obedience freed us from the curse of disobedience to God. The curse of ill health is broken because of the pain and suffering He endured for our sake. When they stripped him of His garment, the curse of poverty was broken from off us! His final words, “It is finished!” testifies that every curse that can ever exist is broken. Hallelujah!

Sweet Jesus, the weekend that changed the world is all because of YOU! We are so grateful for Your sacrifice that words fail us, so we simply say, “We love You, Lord! Amen.
